Following the success of our first year of activities, The “Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Migrants’ Rights in the Mediterranean”, in partnership with the Queen Mary University of London and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), launches the
2nd Summer School 2017
Migration, Sea Border Control and Human Rights
The event, which will take place from 14 to 22 June 2017, aims to combine scientific and practical knowledge on crucial topics of International law of the Sea, Migrations and Human Rights Law.
The ideal candidate will have completed a five, or at least a three-year, University program in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Law of the Sea, Maritime Studies, Maritime Economy, Human Rights, Migration Studies or equivalent.
Students enrolled in a University program lasting longer than three years, who are at least in their fourth year and with an interest in the field, will also be considered.
Ph.D. students, post-doctoral researchers and young professionals in any of the above areas are encouraged to apply.
The working language of the Summer School OPEN DOORS is English. A good command of English is therefore essential and evidence of proficiency may be requested.
How to apply
The final deadline for applying to the 2017 Edition of the OPEN DOORS Summer School is 10 April 2017.
The application period runs from 10 February 2017 to 10 April 2017.
The number of participants is limited: no more than 50 participants will be admitted.
Please note that the Summer School will be activated from a minimum number of 20 applicants.
The Summer School will be held from 14 to 22 June 2017.
It will consist of 40 hours of teaching activities inclusive of traditional ex cathedra lectures, classroom training and workshops with stakeholders and policy makers.
The Open Doors Summer School will be held at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and at the Vesuvian Institute Campus in Castellammare di Stabia, which overlooks the enchanting Bay of Naples, not far from Ercolano, Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano and the Isle of Capri.
The Institute is an ideal place for Open Doors Summer School, since it can combine knowledge with the traditions of archeology, history, art, environment, good food and conviviality.

Diploma and Accreditation
Participants who actively participate in the whole course and successfully complete the assigned coursework will be provided with a Diploma of attendance.
The OPEN DOORS Summer School can be credited with ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System credit).
Summer School’s Fee
The OPEN DOORS Summer School‘s FEE depends on the type of accommodation chosen and from the moment when the applicant proceeds.
Applicants who subscribe by 6 March 2017 will receive a discount on the total amount of the Summer School.

Please note: Already formed groups of three applicants, who specify this request in the application form, can book a triple room. In this case the FEE is:

The Fee includes:
- All classes with renowned experts (academics and stakeholders) on migration issues;
- Official Diploma of attendance;
- Cultural Activities;
- Accommodation at the Vesuvian Institute in Castellammare di Stabia;
- Transfer service Naples – Castellammare di Stabia – Naples.
With respect to payment modalities, please consider that:
- an initial amount of
- 500 € (if you subscribe before 6 March 2017)
- 600 € (if you subscribe before between 6 March 2017 and 10 April 2017)
must be paid within one week after you have been informed that you meet all conditions and requirements to participate.
- the balance must be paid in cash at the day of arrival during the check in, and a receipt will be provided.
The registration process is complete upon final acceptance and payment of the fee.
